Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom Movie Review

3/10

“A creature from the future made from pieces of the past”

A series that might as well be extinct. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom shares a plot that’s muddled with ridiculousness and is built on poor foundations. The film does look incredible but unfortunately, the story can’t match the amazing visuals and the narrative flaws drag it completely down. This should serve as final proof that the series has been in a downward spiral ever since the original came out 25 years ago. In fact, a more appropriate name would be Jurassic World: Fallen Franchise.

My interest in seeing the film tackle the debate of whether dinosaurs should be saved from extinction was quickly diminished when the story became riddled with clichés and unintelligent ideas. I can’t take the story seriously because these aspects didn’t work to their intended dramatic effect, nor were they used in a way that made the movie fun. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has the same intelligence as a Fast and Furious film but none of the nonsensical action I can enjoy.

The villain is not only predictable but also cookie cutter and doesn’t make much sense. There’s yet another new dinosaur to appeal to our senses in case we didn’t love Indominus Rex from the prequel, but he’s almost as forgettable as the story. Plus, there’s another child character because it seems like you can’t make a Jurassic Park movie without having “loveable” child characters. See what I mean with this film being a creature from the future made from pieces of the past?

Even putting aside, the clichés and unfun ridiculousness, there wasn’t anything else new to enjoy. Chris Pratt plays Chris Pratt. Jeff Goldblum’s monologue feels like a Stan Lee cash grab cameo. And everyone else is basically forgettable because the supporting characters only have a certain job to do and they’re not given much else in terms of depth. Their leads are basically a rehash of the prequel and they no longer feel as refreshing. I cared less for the people in this film and more so for the animals that were on display, who speaking of, looked visually fantastic.

I feel that this is the only redeeming quality about the film because the computer animations on the dinosaurs made them look incredibly realistic and believable. They were often moments that made them look so real that it genuinely felt like this is how they would look if they had somehow been filmed in real life millions of years ago. I still harbor warm feelings for the practical effects used in the original but when computer graphics animation is done right like this, the effect can be quite spectacular. And with a production budget of over $150 million, I’d expect nothing less but it still goes to show how great bigger blockbusters can visually be.

Whilst clearly a large amount of effort has been put into the production, I still can’t justify recommending you see this simply because of the story. None of the film feels like intelligent hands have written the script because there’s just too much that feels like it was done so without keeping any real logic in mind. I’m left eye rolling at so many moments that to be put simply; are just dumb.  If you do go see it, I pray that you can find some of the ridiculousness laughable because that’s the only glimmer of hope that might make this film enjoyable. See it if you want to see some great looking dinosaurs but go in with low expectations for the plot and you’ll be grateful. Skip it.

Following her panned performance in the flop movie Joker:
Folie à Deux, the New York City native, 38,
is releasing a single titled Disease, set to be released Friday.

Diesase, the first of songs from her forthcoming seventh album, was teased Tuesday on the Grammy-winning
artist’s Instagram account, as she captioned the image:
    ‘DISEASE 10.25.’

In a teaser clip from the viewpoint of an approaching

Gaga’s label Universal Music on Monday put out pre-saves

Joker: Folie À Deux is branded ‘bleak’ and the ‘most disappointing follow-up’ by critics

The singer, whose hits include Bad Romance, Born This Way, Just Dance and Poker Face, is headed back to her pop persona following the September release of her album Harlequin, which was inspired by Joker: Folie à Deux.

Among the tracks on the album included two new songs, and standards such as That’s Entertainment,
    That’s Life and Get Happy.

Like the film, it was not an initial commercial success, marking her lowest
ever entry for a full-length record on the Billboard 200 charts at number 20.

Lady Gaga in the movie played the role of Harley Quinn opposite Joaquin Phoenix, who earned the Best Actor Oscar for
his performance in the franchise’s 2019 film Joker.

According to the outlet, Joker: Folie à Deux ‘could potentially lose $150 to $200 million’ despite studio insiders saying
    it would break even.

The Warner Bros. film has made $192.2 million worldwide,
with $56.6 million in domestic box office revenue, according to Box Office Mojo.

Joker: Folie à Deux, starring Joaquin Phoenix opposite the pop staple,
underwhelmed with critics and in box office revenues

Some fans have said that despite the film’s initial failure financially and with critics, it will be looked upon favorably years from now.

Lady Gaga has had some commercial success in recent months
with her pairing with Bruno Mars on Die With a Smile, which was released in August, landing
in the third spot on Billboard’s Hot 100.

In 2020, she put out the studio album Chromatica, which initially landed in the top spot upon its debut and
included the hit single Rain on Me, a collaboration with
    Ariana Grande.

What’s YOUR take on Beyonce’s Halloween costume?

    Comment now
It is not clear when Apollonia’s relationship with Prince began or ended as he was dating another
one of the stars of Purple Rain during the making of the film,
    Susan Moonsie.

Prince and Beyonce famously joined forces onstage at the 2004 Grammy Awards, performing a medley that included his
    iconic 1984 single Purple Rain.

Their duet also included her fan favorite number Crazy
In Love, which saw him accompany her on the electric guitar.

Afterwards, Prince gave an interview in which he shared his appraisal of
Beyonce’s musical abilities when they worked together.

‘I was really curious as to how much she knew musically, and I was really pleased to find out that she knew a lot about
scales – Mixolydian scales and Egyptian styles and different things like that,’ he said.

‘And I was just trying to show her some chords
on the piano and help her to respect the fact that if she learns piano à la Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles and things
like that, the sky’s the limit as to what she could do, ’cause she’s so
    very talented.’

Prince died of an accidental overdose in 2016 at the age of just 57.

Earlier this year Beyonce posted a heartwarming Instagram montage of herself wearing a t-shirt
promoting Prince on what would have been his 66th

In her new No.1 New York Times best-selling memoir, Melania Trump
shares a revealing look into her personal life and journey
    – from a childhood in small-town Slovenia, to globetrotting pursuits as a young model,
to her courtship and marriage to one of the world’s most famous men.

She also corrects the record, challenges her critics and clarifies
her positions on a range of issues from abortion (she’s pro-choice) to the inclusion of biological men in women’s sports (female athletes must
    always be ‘protected and respected’).

In fact, she sounds like many female voters grappling with the whiplash changes
wrought by Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’s time in the White House.

The bold, confident, free-thinking modern woman who may soon occupy
the White House is not named Kamala Harris. (Pictured: Kellyanne with Donald and Melania Trump at the White
    House in 2019).

‘The country is suffering,’ she writes. ‘We have wars around the world…
The border is open and dangerous… a lot of fentanyl
is coming over and killing our youth…. The economy is really
    not great, inflation is high.’

I’ve known and worked alongside Melania for many years, and regard her as a friend.

She has been unfairly maligned and the target of so much speculation and prevarication. That is why
it has been so wonderful to see her own ‘October Surprise’, a memoir in her own words on her own timeline, showing
the measured, magnanimous woman tens of millions of Americans adore.

Earlier this year, Melania and I lost our mothers just weeks apart.
Even as she navigated her loss in public view, Melania made every effort to be there for me.
She and President Trump called, sent flowers, handwritten notes and checked in with me time and again.

After my divorce was finalized last year, Melania showed up again, supporting
me as any caring friend would and encouraging me to swing open soldered doors following a time of personal upheaval and
    transition.

    EXCLUSIVE

KELLYANNE CONWAY: Don’s back! Here’s his new 2024 blueprint

And it was the same story when we worked together in the White House.

While Jill Biden has insisted on being called ‘Doctor’,
Melania was admired and beloved by the political and permanent staffers alike, asking after their children by name, welcoming them to events big and small, and treating them
    with inclusivity and respect.

Known as a protective and present mother, Melania now uses
her memoir to call out the ‘sheer malice’ of unfunny comic Rosie O’Donnell who, in 2016, tweeted despicable and totally unfounded claims about Barron, then aged
    10.

It was just weeks after Trump had stunned the world and won, and the same liberal media and
Hollywood types, who perpetuated every vicious attack against him, reveled as O’Donnell’s vile lie wormed its way across social media.

It was a shock to see such naked cruelty towards
a First Child, especially when so many of us had treated Chelsea Clinton and the Obama daughters like
Fabergé eggs. Kids (including mine) should always be off
    limits.

I’ve known and worked alongside Melania for many years, and regard her as a friend.
(Pictured together in 2018 visiting Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center).

Earlier this year, Melania and I lost our mothers just
weeks apart. Even as she navigated her loss in public view, Melania made every effort to be there for me.
She and President Trump called, sent flowers, handwritten notes and checked in with me time and again. (Pictured:
Together with Trump in the White House in 2019).

But instead of going to war, Melania acted swiftly and tenderly to
shield her son. She channeled maternal outrage into a first lady’s focus
on initiatives centered around children’s wellness and cyberbullying awareness.
Her ‘Be Best’ campaign remains a highlight
    of her time in office.

Melania has never been one for preening and posturing.
Other first ladies used their roles to land on the cover of fashion magazines, but she did so
on her own, years before, as a successful model.

Even when I’ve suggested she push back on myriad false claims made by
the media or ungrateful former staffers who have returned her trust in them with self-serving lies and revisionist history, she has declined, knowing that her silence is always more
    powerful.

Behind closed doors, Trump has, for decades, regarded his wife as a top
confidante and counselor. Whether as an international business mogul, a TV star or, lately,
leader of the free world, it is Melania’s opinion that he has consistently sought.

Trump enjoys the company of plenty of friends, taking a range of advice, but
he speaks of – and to – Melania in an entirely unique way.
Really, he fears yet reveres her. He respects her independence, seeks her input,
trusts her keen eye, sharp ear and sense of people.

I have witnessed their relationship up close, and it
is one fundamentally built on mutual love and respect.

Recently, as Barron was heading off for college and Melania was preparing to publish
her memoir, I jokingly asked Trump how it might feel
to be the second most popular man and the second most prominent author in the household.
    He chuckled and relented.

Melania Trump has plenty to say and nothing to
prove. She is not a typical political spouse rushing to the cameras on matters that
are best handled privately, or loudly offering
insights or slights about her husband’s political opponents à la Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama.

She is an asset, a partner, an equal who is neither trying to
control – looking at you, Jill Biden – nor controlled by her partner.

She is what many feminists insist they are: independent, a product of her own choices,
    comfortable in her own skin.

She has been by Trump’s side the entire time. Though never in his shadow.
In fact, from that very first moment they descended the golden escalator, she’s been leading the way.

That set off a string a big hits for the filmmaker that includes Unbreakable (2000), Signs (2002) and The Village (2004),
that ultimately ended with the release of Lady In The
Water (2006), which barely covered the $70 million budget.

His biggest box office success was with The Sixth Sense, grossing $672.8 million while working with a $40 million budget 25
    years ago.

To date, the film made $6.6 million on its first day, including an estimated $2.2 million from
    the Thursday night previews.

  340. Russell Crowe has argued that the rise of independent politicians are better representing the views of everyday Australians,
unlike the two-party-dominated system in the
    United States.

The Oscar-winning actor made the claim in response to podcast host Joe
Rogan  complaining that Americans were ‘completely trapped in the two-party system’.

‘We have the same sort of situation, but we
have a very interesting thing that’s happening in Australia at the moment, which is the
    rise of independents,’ Crowe countered.

‘The main parties have to deal with the fact those independents have to bring
a non-party-line series of points to the argument.

‘And it’s working well. It’s working for us. In that it’s
making both of the main parties re-examine who they are
    and what they stand for.

Rogan mused ‘we could use that here, for sure’,
highlighting how US politics is completely dominated by the Democrat and Republican parties.

There are other parties, including the Green, Libertarian, and Reform parties, but these receive vanishingly few votes in comparison.

Independent candidates can also stand and have
been known to perform well on occasion.

The Oscar-winning actor (pictured ) made the observation in response to podcast host
Joe Rogan who complained that Americans were ‘completely trapped in the two-party system’

Joe Rogan (pictured) is one of the most powerful
    media figures in the world

Civil rights opponent George Wallace ran a third-party
campaign in the 1968 US election which saw him garner 10 million votes and take five southern states, while another disaffected
Democrat, Strom Thurmond, in 1948 carried four southern states on a similarly racist platform but with only a million votes.

The nephew of a president, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., was poised
to get on the ballot in dozens of states as an independent candidate before he pulled out and backed Republican Donald
    Trump.

He has now been appointed Health secretary in Trump’s incoming cabinet.

Trump himself had previously belonged to the Reform Party.

The former New York property developer had even considered running for president in the 2000 election under the banner
of that movement – formed by former third-party presidential candidate
Ross Perot, who won 19 per cent of the popular vote in 1992 but gained no electoral college votes.

Perot was the most popular minority party candidate since former Republican president Teddy Roosevelt in 1912 ran as the Bull Moose Party candidate – carrying six states including California and coming second ahead of Republican William Taft.

Australia has seen a rise in recent years of nominally independent politicians who have taken votes
away from the two traditional parties of Labor and
    the Liberal-National coalition

This situation is helped by a strong Green party who now have 12
senators and four members in the House of Representatives.

Zali Steggall (pictured) became the first ‘teal’ independent to achieve huge success
when she ousted former prime minister Tony Abbott
in his seat in Sydney’s northern beaches at the 2019 election

Meanwhile, independent candidates who run on strong climate platforms but are fiscally
conservative have been labelled ‘teal’ candidates.

This is because they have combined their ‘green’ views on climate with the traditional ‘blue’ approach of the centre-right Liberal
    Party on economics.

Zali Steggall became the first teal independent to achieve huge success when she ousted former
prime minister Tony Abbott in his seat in Sydney’s northern beaches
    at the 2019 election.

In similar fashion, Monique Ryan won the traditionally Liberal seat from former treasurer Josh Frydenberg at the 2022 election.

She was one of seven teals elected, swelling the lower house crossbench to 16, with this tally including
the four Greens, three conservative independents
and progressives Andrew Wilkie and Helen Haines.

Crowe’s three-hour conversation with Rogan, which was first aired in August,
has recently resurfaced in teal social media adverts.

They are being pushed by Melbourne philanthropist Simon Holmes à Court, who founded Climate 200,
which has given campaign funding to some teal candidates.

Not all the 12 independents elected in 2022 were teals, however.

Maverick independent Bob Katter has just celebrated 50 years in parliament (pictured:
being congratulated by prime minister Anthony
    Albanese)

Dai Lee, a former state Liberal candidate, defeated
former Labor frontbencher and former NSW Labor premier
Kristina Keneally in the south-west Sydney seat of
    Fowler.

And, of course, maverick Bob Katter who has just celebrated 50 years in parliament, spending 20 years
as a Queensland state MP before serving the past three decades in federal parliament as the MP
for the regional far north Queensland electorate of Kennedy.

Among his many mad-hat policies over the years include a bid to teach school kids how to fire rifles and
a desire to build a missile shield across northern Australia.

The House of Representatives crossbench grew to 17 in late 2022 when Andrew Gee quit the Nationals in protest at its opposition to the Indigenous Voice to
    Parliament.

The Greens and independents make up 11 per cent of the 151-member lower
house – the highest proportion of non major party MPs since Federation in 1901.

And in this key southwestern state — where the billionaire Trump lost to President Joe Biden in 2020 by a tiny margin of about 10,500 votes — every ballot truly will count.

In the mid-sized city of Tucson, hundreds of volunteers in orange T-shirts
were going door-to-door to try to persuade voters to back a ballot measure to inscribe abortion rights
in the state constitution — and, while they’re at it, to vote for Vice President Harris.

To Grace Ireland, a 26-year-old activist, the abortion restrictions imposed by
several Republican-controlled states amount to “a public health crisis that Donald Trump and the Republicans have created.”

She added, “Democrats and Kamala Harris are trying to push us forward and protect women’s health care and protect our democracy and protect all people.”

Une pancarte barrée du slogan “L’indifférence aux élections est dangereuse”, à
Tucson, en Arizona, le 16 octobre 2024

Since 2022, when the US Supreme Court ended the constitutional protection of federal abortion rights, Ireland, a registered nurse, has worked in several states where abortion is banned or severely
    limited.

Those restrictions have had sometimes disastrous consequences
for women having problem pregnancies or carrying nonviable fetuses when doctors refuse to treat them.

“Women are going septic and dying because they cannot receive the care that they need,” she told AFP.

    – ‘Abortion is murder’ –

As Ireland carries her message to potential voters, she noted, particularly to young people
who may be less likely to vote, that it was Donald Trump who appointed the three justices
who tipped the Supreme Court against abortion rights.

Donald Trump lors d’un meeting à Tempe, en Arizona, le
    24 octobre 2024

“It’s important to reiterate that Donald Trump and these abortion bans are one and the same,” Ireland said.

But in Tucson there is little unanimity among young voters.

“I do think that abortion is murder,” said Pedro Lopez,
    a 20-year-old college student.

“There are cases of incest or rape” that merit exceptions, he
    conceded, “but that’s very small.”

He also worries about the flow of undocumented migrants that have entered
the country from Mexico during the Biden-Harris administration.

“People that are entering the United States illegally… should be sent back to where they came from,” he said.

“My grandparents migrated from Mexico to the United States, and they did it the right way.”

So he plans not only to vote for Trump, but to back the proposal to
let local law enforcement detain, arrest and prosecute anyone suspected of having entered the country illegally — powers normally reserved to the border police who work for the federal government.

“I know people that work for the Border Patrol, and they’re really upset because this current administration has really tied their hands up. They’re not really able to do anything,” Lopez said.

    – Mixed impact –

The major political parties see the competing referendums as offering an opportunity to
mobilize more people to vote — on ballot questions at the
very heart of the two presidential campaigns.

Anti-abortion activists demonstrate outside a clinic in Phoenix,
    Arizona on April 18, 2024

But the referendums may not have the clear impact on the race for the White
    House that activists hope.

Polls show Trump and Harris running neck-and-neck
in Arizona, with the Republican holding a very narrow lead.

Both ballot questions, meantime, have drawn strong support and both appear likely to pass.

So the abortion issue may not be “helping Democrats in the way that they would hope,” said Jenny
Brian, a professor of bioethics at Arizona State University.

Many Republican women will vote both to protect abortion rights and to bring Trump back to the White House,
    Brian said.

Though abortion is sometimes framed as a Democrat vs.
Republican issue, the Republican Party includes “a broad spectrum of views on the topic,” an issue that also raises conservatives’ concerns about “government interference,” she added.

The same dynamic applies to immigration, with the tougher language
on the Arizona ballot question finding support not just
among Trump Republicans but also “moderates and even many Democrats,” said
John Kavanagh, a Republican and an Arizona state senator.

The 74-year-old Kavanagh is unimpressed by Harris’s recent toughening on migration, specifically her promise to maintain the partial
closing of the border Biden ordered in recent months.

The vice president, Kavanagh said, is “running away faster from her open-border policy than an illegal immigrant that runs away from the Border Patrol.”

The superstar, 43, took to Instagram on Friday with her second look from

She channeled both the late Purple Rain hitmaker and his protégée turned lover, Mexican model Patricia ‘Apollonia’

It is not clear when Apollonia’s relationship with Prince began or ended as
he was dating another one of the stars of Purple Rain during the making of the film, Susan Moonsie.

Prince and Beyonce famously joined forces onstage at the 2004 Grammy Awards, performing a medley that included
his iconic 1984 single Purple Rain.

Their duet also included her fan favorite number Crazy In Love, which saw him
accompany her on the electric guitar.

Afterwards, Prince gave an interview in which he shared his appraisal of Beyonce’s musical abilities
    when they worked together.

‘I was really curious as to how much she knew musically, and I was really pleased to find out that
she knew a lot about scales – Mixolydian scales and Egyptian styles and different things like that,’ he said.

‘And I was just trying to show her some chords on the piano
and help her to respect the fact that if she
learns piano à la Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles
and things like that, the sky’s the limit as to what she could
do, ’cause she’s so very talented.’

  355. Jackie O Henderson has left her father Tony red-faced after a shocking
stunt in which he was tricked into reading about her threesome live on-air.

The awkward family exchange occurred on Tuesday’s Kyle and Jackie O Show when the radio queen and co-host Kyle Sandilands were discussing Jackie’s new memoir The Whole Truth.

Before getting her father on the line, Jackie explained to listeners that she was about to get an unsuspecting Tony
to read an excerpt that detailed a night of passion with then boyfriend ‘Ugly’ Phil O’Neil and a 19-year-old stripper.

‘So this is going back to my Gold Coast days when I had met Phil who [later became] my first husband,’ the 49-year-old explained.

‘I had only just met him at this point. I think [we were] two months into seeing each other.’

Jackie then prompted her unprepared father to read the excerpt that detailed Phil’s living situation with
the stripper and another, rather unsavory ‘stoner’ flatmate.

‘He lived in a place in Main Beach that felt like a motel with two weird flatmates.
One was a stoner guy who would sit there blazed out of his gourd,’ Tony read from
    Jackie’s book.

Jackie O Henderson has left her father Tony a little red faced after making him read about her first threesome live on air

The book then turned to Jackie’s first ménage à trois.

‘Then there was the stripper they lived with [named] Christie,’ Tony read.

‘We went out to a nightclub one night and we came home and we
were having sex and Christie decided she wanted
    to join us.

‘The idea of a threesome had obviously never occurred to me before I had
never even considered it because it didn’t sound like me.’

Tony soldiered on with the revealing passage which revealed that Jackie
and Phil’s third was only interested in one half of the equation.

‘I had no idea what to do – she was this cute 19-year-old with a dark bob
and an amazing body but she was only into women,’ Tony continued.

‘Phil was really excited but Christie kept slapping him
away. She did her thing and then left.’

When Kyle asked Jackie to clarify what she meant by ‘did her thing’,
a sheepish Jackie replied: ‘Let’s not talk about this in front
    of my dad, shall we.’

continued. ‘Phil was really excited but Christie kept slapping him away .
She did her thing and then left.’ Jackie id pictured with Phil (r) and Michael Jackson tribute act Jason Jackson

Despite the raciness of the content he had just read from his daughter’s book, Tony admitted
he was not shocked by the revelations.

‘Am I amazed? Probably not,’ he said.

‘I’m sort of trying to take all of this in. After all, its
my daughter we’re talking about. If it was somebody else,
it would be a different story altogether. I’d be so excited.

‘I’ve been round the block a few times. I understand how these
    things happen.’

Another passage in the book revealed a very awkward encounter between Phil’s male flatmate and Jackie’s mother Julie.

‘My mum came over once and when no one answered the door,
she put her face to the screen to see inside and that flatmate was right there in the living room, pants down, w***ing,’ a shocked Tony read.

The revelations come after Jackie spoke for the first time about her years-long battle with drugs which saw her secretly go to rehab at
The Betty Ford Clinic in November in 2022.

During a tearful on-air admission, Jackie said at the height of her addiction, she took around 10-12 Stilnox/Ambien sleeping pills and 24 Panadeine Forte
    painkillers a day.

    showdown.

The fright flick eclipsed hot contender Terrifier 3 for the top spot.

The Smile sequel starring Scott, 31,  as a pop star who begins
experiencing terrifying and inexplicable events as she prepares for a world tour, opened wide
in more than 3,600 theaters, pulling in a payday of $23 million.

Ray, whose mom is Nicholson’s former partner Rebecca Broussard, shocked fans with an eerie grin in the new movie, which was near-identical to the Oscar-winner’s maniacal smile
as Jack Torrance in the 1980 Stanley Kubrick classic, The Shining.

In a legendary scene, an insane Jack hacks at a bathroom door with an axe as
his cowering wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) screams inside.
As he busts a hole in the door, he sticks his face through, grins and
exclaims: ‘Here’s Johnny!’ in an improvised line.

The original Smile, released in September 2022, and starring
Sosie Bacon, was a sleeper hit, which was well received and earned $217,408,513 globally.

Smile 2 has received a 83-percent critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an 83-percent Popcornmeter rating from audiences.

Rubies are often referred to as the ‘king of gemstones’ and their vibrant color – caused by the presence of chromium – is often associated with passion, love,
    and power.

The name ‘ruby’ comes from the Latin word ‘ruber’ which means red.

Rubies are incredibly sought after for their beauty and durability, they
are ranked 9 on the Mohs scale of hardness (qualitative scale that measures the relative
hardness of minerals and other materials by their resistance to scratching),
    second to diamonds.

Beyond their sparkle and strength, they have held
    cultural significance for centuries.

Throughout history, rubies have been associated with nobility and wealth, often adorning the crowns of kings and
queens. They are also believed to bring good
fortune and protection to their wearer.

According to Melee the Show founders Lauren Wolf and
Rebecca Overmann, ruby jewelry is on the rise.

The fine jewelry trade show connects buyers and designers,
with the next shows taking place in New York (February 1-3) and Tucson (February 5-7).

‘From bold gemstones to intricate craftsmanship, our designers
bring rubies to life in ways that inspire and captivate,’ said the duo.

Anthony Lent, Fannie Thomas, Heather Guidero, Jake Matluck, Amali, Karin Jacobson, Marian Maurer and Ciara Bowles
are some of the exhibiting designers who work with rubies.

  361. Do Greens and crossbenchers who claim that transparency and integrity is
at the heart of their reason for entering Parliament in the first place
    hear themselves?

In the past few days they have mounted self-serving arguments against proposed electoral
reforms that the major parties look set to come together to support.

The reforms include caps for how much money wealthy individuals can donate, caps on the
amount candidates can spend in individual electorates to prevent the
equivalent of an arms race, and a $90million limit
on what any party can spend at an election – actually less than the major parties currently spend.

The proposed new laws also include lower disclosure thresholds for donations, thus increasing the transparency of who makes
political donations in the first place.

So the wealthy wont be able to hide behind anonymity while using their cash to influence election outcomes –
and the extent to which they can use their wealth at all will be
    limited.

The bill will further improve transparency by also increasing the speed
and frequency that disclosures of donations need to be made.

At present we have the absurd situation in which donations get made – but you
only find out the details of who has given what to whom many months later, well
after elections are won and lost.

In other words, what is broadly being proposed will result in much greater transparency
and far less big money being injected into campaigning by
    the wealthy.

Teal Kylea Tink claimed the major parties were ‘running
scared’ with the policy and warned the reform would ‘not stop the rot’

Greens senate leader Larissa Waters (left) fired a warning shot
    – saying if it serves only the major parties
‘it’s a rort, not reform’. Teal independent ACT senator David Pocock (right) said: ‘What
seems to be happening is a major-party stitch-up’

Anyone donating more than $1,000 to a political party, as opposed
to $16,000 under the current rules, will need to disclose having done so.
And how much they can donate will be capped.

Yet the Greens and Teals have quickly condemned the proposed new laws,
labeling them a ‘stitch-up’, ‘outrageous’ and
    ‘a rort, not a reform’.

They have lost their collective minds after finding out that Labor’s proposal just might
secure the support of the opposition.

I had to double check who was criticising what exactly
before even starting to write this column.

Because I had assumed – incorrectly – that these important
transparency measures stamping out the influence of the wealthy must have been proposed by the virtue-signalling Greens or the corruption-fighting Teals, in a united
crossbench effort to drag the major parties closer to accountability.

    More fool me.

The bill, designed to clean up a rotten system,
is being put forward by Labor and is opposed by a growing cabal of
    crossbenchers.

It makes you wonder what they have to hide.
Put simply, the Greens and Teals doth protest too much on this issue.

Labor is thought to be trying to muscle out major political donors
    such as Clive Palmer

Another potential target of the laws is businessman and Teal funder Simon Holmes à Court

The Greens have taken massive donations in the past,
contrary to their irregular calls to tighten donations rules (Greens leader Adam Bandt and Senator Mehreen Faruqi are pictured)

The major parties have long complained about the influence the likes of Simon Holmes à Court wields behind the scenes amongst the Teals.

And we know the Greens have taken massive donations from the wealthy in the
past, contrary to their irregular calls to tighten donations rules.

Now that tangible change has been proposed, these bastions of virtue are running a mile from reforms that will curtail
    dark art of political donations.

The Labor government isn’t even seeking for these transparency rules to take effect immediately, by the way.
It won’t be some sort of quick-paced power play before the
next election designed to catch the crossbench
    out.

They are aiming for implementation by 2026, giving everyone enough time
to absorb and understand the changes before preparing for them.

Don’t get me wrong, no deal has yet been done between Labor and the
Coalition. I imagine the opposition want to go over the laws
    with a fine tooth comb.

As they should – because it certainly isn’t beyond Labor to include hidden one-party advantages in the proposed design which would create loopholes
only the unions are capable of taking advantage of, therefore disadvantaging the Coalition electorally in the years to
    come.

But short of such baked-in trickiness scuttling a deal to get these proposed laws implemented, the crossbench should offer
their support, not cynical opposition, to what is being advocated for.

They might even be able to offer something worthwhile that could be incorporated in the package.

To not do so exposes their utter hypocrisy and blowhard false commentary about being in politics to ‘clean things up’.

  365. March 24 (Reuters) – Marlboro maker Philip Morris International
Inc is working on options to exit the Russian market,
citing a complex and rapidly changing regulatory and operating environment in the country following its invasion of Ukraine.

The company, which garnered around 6% its net revenue from
Russia in 2021, said on Thursday it has discontinued sale of several cigarette products
and canceled all product launches for the year in Russia.

It has also canceled plans to make over 20 billion TEREA sticks, heated tobacco units intended for use with its IQOS ILUMA devices,
as well as related investment of $150 million.

Earlier this month, Philip Morris had suspended its planned investments and
decided to scale down manufacturing operations in the country.

  366. A British tourist who was arrested for allegedly raping a six-year-old girl in Thailand was reported to police by the
child’s mother, who he had been in a relationship with, investigators
    have said.

Luke Adam Lawrence, 30, from Leeds, West Yorkshire,
was identified by sleuths at the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) over a video allegedly showing a
    child being abused.

Officers worked with local cops and tracked Lawrence to the
seaside ‘Sin City’ resort of Pattaya where he was
living with his girlfriend, a Thai national who he had reportedly been with for around two
    years.

The 25-year-old mother, identified in Thai media only as ‘Ms B’, was reportedly shocked
after seeing evidence that her partner had abused her child and
    immediately filed charges against him.

After locating him using the video evidence provided by the NCA,
social media and phone tracing tools, armed police
stormed his rented home at the Private Paradise Pattaya
condominium block on Tuesday morning, December 3.

Footage shows Lawrence emerging from the bedroom shirtless followed by a woman. A
translator in a blue denim jacket was present, reading the charges to the suspect.

Cops ordered Lawrence to kneel before he confirmed his
name. He reacted by saying ‘what, woah, wow’ as the charges were
    read out.

Reading from the court arrest warrant, the translator says:
‘According to the illegal conduct you have done, there has been a charge of rape, statutory rape, of another individual, by force, by threat, by
applying threats and force, violent threats and
violent force, to a person that was in a position that could not
resist, or a person that could not fight back.

‘Also, against a minor under the age of 13 years old,
which is not your wife, not your legal wife.’

Luke Adam Lawrence, 30, from Leeds, West Yorkshire, was identified
by sleuths at the National Crime Agency (NCA) in London over an alleged
video of a schoolgirl being abused

Officers worked with local cops and tracked Lawrence to the seaside ‘Sin City’ resort of Pattaya
where he was living with a Thai woman

Thailand’s Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) issued a media
release confirming that the suspect had been identified by the
NCA in England over the sexual abuse of the child

The translator went on: ‘Even if that child did or did not agree, this conduct
has been done against a child, who has not reached
the age of 13 years old, so even if the child did agree
or not agree to that, the child was in a situation where they
could not fight back or do anything about that.’

Lawrence was then formally arrested over the alleged rape of the youngster, who he is said
to have known through a friend. He was frogmarched into
    a waiting police van.

Thailand’s Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has
since issued a warning to Thai women who meet foreign partners through online platforms,
specifically cautioning about the risks of pedophilia.

The CIB earlier put out a media release confirming that the suspect had been identified by the NCA
in England over the sexual abuse of the child.

Officers said the investigation was launched when the NCA claimed to
have traced child abuse content to Lawrence’s phone.

A clip allegedly showed him raping a young Southeast Asian girl, which they believe happened in Thailand.

The cops in the UK then liaised with officers in Bangkok at the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division. The Thai police said they analysed the footage and compared it with different locations in Pattaya and social media posts to find Lawrence.

They claim to have identified the victim as a seven-year-old girl who was abused
when she was six years old. They believe that Lawrence had connections to the mother of the alleged victim.

An arrest warrant was issued for ‘raping a minor under the age of 13’ and
Lawrence was caught at 7.15 am.

He was handcuffed and passed to the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division for further legal action.

Cops ordered Lawrence to kneel before he confirmed his
name. He reacted by saying ‘what, woah, wow’ as the charges were read out

Cops in the UK liaised with officers in Bangkok at the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division to find Lawrence

Police Lieutenant Colonel Kiatkong Thongkham of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons
Division said: ‘The suspect denied all charges and refused to testify
during the arrest. He was detained at the police station.’

Investigating officers later informed the schoolgirl’s mother
of the arrest. They allegedly presented evidence and
she filed further complaints to be added to the charge sheet.

The CIB said in a statement about the case that local women should ‘beware’ of foreign men who visit the country
    looking for a girlfriend.

They said: ‘This is a warning to Thai women who seek foreign partners
through various online channels, to be careful of the dangers of
paedophilia, which is a mental disorder that causes patients to be sexually
interested in children who have not yet reached puberty.

‘Being aware of, and protecting against dangers that may arise from those who behave
in this way, is very important.’

thriller, in which Joaquin reprises his role as the
    titular Joker – Batman’s soon-to-be nemesis

For the photocall, Joaquin cut a casual figure
in a black zip hoodie which he teamed with matching tracksuit bottoms
    and Converse trainers

The pair were seen chatting ahead of taking pictures

The stars were later joined by director Todd Phillips as the trio beamed for snaps together

It comes after Lady Gaga teased a new rock n’ roll track, The Joker, in an Instagram video on Wednesday.

At the beginning of the teaser, Lady Gaga – whose real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta – wore a short, red wig as well as a blue and white-patterned dress.

    à Deux

She completed the look by slipping into a pair of polka dot tights as well as black and white-colored, Converse sneakers.

The singer stood near the edge of a balcony outside as she
gazed at the Louvre which was lit up at night.

As she began to walk away, Lady Gaga sang, ‘There’s always a
joker in the pack, there’s always a lonely
    clown.’

The teaser then cut to the songstress dancing inside the dimly lit
museum as she began to make her way down concrete steps – similar to Joaquin Phoenix’s stair dance scene in Joker (2019).

She walked down a long, dark hallway while surrounded by various paintings as
the star continued to belt out lyrics in the background.

‘The poor laughing fool falls on his back and everyone laughs when he’s down/ There’s
always a funny man in the game, but he’s only funny by mistake.’

The A Star Is Born actress then strolled into another empty room inside the Louvre and
a small smile broke out onto her face upon seeing a certain piece of artwork.

‘And everyone laughs at him just the same. They don’t see his
lonely heartbreak,’ she continued to sing.

The stars shielded from the rain under an umbrella

Gaga’s fashion parade for the film has been a resounding success at
least after her last big film House of Gucci released in 2021 was savaged by critics

The much-anticipated Folie à Deux is a follow-up to 2019’s Academy Award-winning Joker, which earned more than $1
billion at the global box office and remains the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time

Lady Gaga tilted her head to the side and slowly
walked up to Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa painting.

The star flashed a bigger grin and waved – but her
smile faded as she looked into the eyes of the Mona Lisa.

She then took out red lipstick and drew Joker’s smile over protective glass in front of the painting to give the Mona Lisa a similar grin.

‘They don’t care as long as there is a jester, just
a fool. As foolish as he can be. There’s always a joker, that’s the
rule! But fate deals the hand that I see. The joker is me,’ the lyrics in the teaser also
    included.

Lady Gaga began to walk away and looked over shoulder to take one last look at the artwork, and revealed Harley Quinn makeup on her
    face.

She tossed her arms up into the air as she danced her way out of the abandoned Louvre
Museum as the reel came to an end.

In conclusion, text on the screen revealed that an exhibition at the Louvre called Figures of the
Fool will begin next month on October 16.

According to the official website, the museum is ‘dedicating an unprecedented exhibition to the myriad figures of the
fool, which permeated the pictorial landscape
of the 13th to the 16th centuries.’

In the caption of the post, the performer wrote to her
    followers, ‘There’s always a Joker. #FiguresDuFou #Louvre #JokerMovie.’

  372. Lady Gaga is getting back to basics.

Following her panned performance in the flop movie Joker: Folie à Deux, the New York City
native, 38, is releasing a single titled Disease, set to
    be released Friday.

Diesase, the first of songs from her forthcoming seventh
album, was teased Tuesday on the Grammy-winning artist’s Instagram account, as she captioned the image:
    ‘DISEASE 10.25.’

In a teaser clip from the viewpoint of an approaching vehicle, the actress-singer, whose real name
is Stefani Germanotta, sported a black mane as she ran from it.

Gaga’s label Universal Music on Monday put out
pre-saves for the forthcoming single, with links to Spotify and Apple
    Music, Variety reported.

Gaga also made public a Spotify playlist
in which her letters in her songs spelled out the phrase ‘Gaga Disease,’ according to the outlet.

Lady Gaga on Monday posted an adjacent image of what appeared to be her figure splayed across the front of a car with the phrase ‘Disease’ painted on the street, and a series of dates,
    times and cities.

Joker: Folie À Deux is branded ‘bleak’ and the ‘most disappointing follow-up’
    by critics

The singer, whose hits include Bad Romance, Born This Way, Just Dance and Poker Face, is headed back to her pop
persona following the September release of her album Harlequin, which was inspired by Joker:
    Folie à Deux.

Among the tracks on the album included two new songs,
and standards such as That’s Entertainment, That’s Life
    and Get Happy.

Like the film, it was not an initial commercial success,
marking her lowest ever entry for a full-length record
on the Billboard 200 charts at number 20.

Lady Gaga in the movie played the role of Harley Quinn opposite Joaquin Phoenix,
who earned the Best Actor Oscar for his performance in the
    franchise’s 2019 film Joker.

According to the outlet, Joker: Folie à Deux ‘could potentially lose $150
to $200 million’ despite studio insiders saying it would break
    even.

The Warner Bros. film has made $192.2 million worldwide, with $56.6 million in domestic box office revenue, according
    to Box Office Mojo.

Joker: Folie à Deux, starring Joaquin Phoenix opposite the pop staple,
underwhelmed with critics and in box office revenues

Some fans have said that despite the film’s initial failure financially and
with critics, it will be looked upon favorably years from now.

Lady Gaga has had some commercial success in recent months with her pairing
with Bruno Mars on Die With a Smile, which was released in August, landing in the
third spot on Billboard’s Hot 100.

In 2020, she put out the studio album Chromatica, which initially landed in the top spot
upon its debut and included the hit single Rain on Me, a collaboration with Ariana Grande.
