An instant neo-noir mystery classic and an easy contender for 2018’s best films. Under the Silver Lake has an incredibly detailed and intriguing story but matches it with spectacular production. From the directing, music, acting, the locations, the costume design; it’s hard to put a single fault to a film that has one of the most fascinating and original stories of the past decade.

Even if you watch the trailer (which doesn’t give away anything), there’s not much that can prepare you for where the story will go. I can’t remember a more densely packed fictional film with every detail and piece of information revealed meaning something to the story. This is one that deserves several rewatches and has become a favourite from this year.
